Brandy Levens was born in 1982 in a small town in Georgia. This town would help to shape her cynical views and to put the spark in her bones to succeed. Brandy's mother is an extremely crafty woman who is always doing creative projects from stain glass to painting ceramics. She herself was supposed to attend art college. Her mother helped to encourage Brandy's right to think for herself. This idea stems back into Brandy's childhood, when her mother gave her the right to dress herself and didn't change her. Brandy's father is always doing things with his hands, such as turning their carport into a den with a stone fireplace. Things like this caught her attention very young and she always admired him for his ability to problem-solve. She inherited this ability to problem-solve, and the love of using her hands. Brandy likes a challenge and is always striving to challenge herself and those around her. She challenges others by asking more of the individuals she puts around her, to give knowledge and to accept knowledge from others. Self-expression is important in her art. Brandy believes that the shaping of the artist is what keeps an artist always searching and reaching to really grasp and understand themselves. Brandy currently lives in Athens, GA, where she completed her BFA for Painting and Drawing at the University of Georgia in May 2008 and plans to soon be pursuing her MFA out of state.
